Universiti Tunku Abdul Rahman (UTAR) recently embarked on the exciting journey of setting-up a hospital offering both contemporary western medicine, traditional and complementary medicine. The University foresees the need to improve quality healthcare services that is affordable to meet the needs of the community. This hospital will also pave the way for the training of its medical students and medical professionals in the right environment with qualified staff and world-class facilities.
The hospital will be named Hospital Sultan Azlan Shah (HSAS) and it will be a 500-bed facility built in multiple phases. Phase 1 will have 250 beds and Phase 2 will house the rest of the 250 beds which will be constructed after 2025. The Hospital will provide both secondary and tertiary referral services, with the capability of delivering and supporting advanced sub-specialised services including organ transplants, open heart, micro-vascular, microcellular and stereotactic interventions following the completion of its Phase 2. The Hospital will be supported by 24-hour critical care and diagnostic investigation services and will provide comprehensive access to on-call specialised clinicians.

The UTAR Education Foundation will own the hospital and its operations. As part of its continuing social responsibilities to the local Kampar community, the Foundation intends on providing affordable medical services to patients.

Suitably qualified candidates identified by the UTAR Education Foundation will be offered scholarships to study a full-time degree programme in UTAR Sungai Long Campus or a full-time diploma programme in a local nursing institution. After successfully completing the programme of study, he/she will serve at the Hospital Sultan Azlan Shah.
The scholarships will cover total programme fees, hostel accommodation, monthly allowance, uniform and shoes, and medical and insurance.

UTAR Education Foundation will provide sponsorships to students with interest in pursuing a full-time diploma programme in a local nursing institution selected by the Hospital management. Students will be awarded a Diploma in Nursing upon completion of the programme and will be officially registered with the Malaysian Nursing Board as Registered Nurse (SRN).
